THE SHELTERING SKY (1990)
It occurred to me that it has been weeks since my first 'Looking Back' post. I had intended to do this every week but what can you expect from someone who is always on the road like me? Well, I do what I can when I can. But I do love to look back on what I think are some of the greatest moments in cinema history, moments that keep my blood warm and that hold me tight to the dream that is cinema, even when I feel like all the hard work and grim moments of working in this business is enough for me to throw my hands up and walk away... but then I think of moments like this and I realize I couldnt do anything else if I tried.

Director, Lech Majewski does a brilliant orchestration in this film which is like watching an artist visually show how his painting is created and all of his inspirations.
Opening this complex painting via a combination of actors and horses with blue screen effects and 2D backdrops with historical, religious, contemporary and symbolic figures, with biblical travails depicted alongside sufferings of Flemish citizens persecuted by representatives of the Spanish inquisition.

While the First Lady Michelle Obama has always been seen as a chic marketeer, her role as a liaison between Hollywood and the US Military might come as a surprise. But on June 13, with filmmaker/moderator JJ Abrams, the First Lady breezed through a heartfelt meeting on the subject of how Hollywood portrays our military in film/media.
Thanks to Gregg Mitchell of the WGA for this recap, and to Mchael Jones for the stellar photo.
In a month’s time, the east coast has been buried with enough snow to wear down even the “but-I-love-the-change-of-seasons” people. We’re barely a month in and already the winter has worn out it’s welcome, except in those other areas where winter seemingly has no bearing on mood or outcome.
The next Batman installment, “The Dark Knight Rises,” will feature Hathaway as Catwoman. Hathaway rose to prominence largely featuring in Disney teen comedies. Hardy has been cast as “Bane,” who will likely be the chief bad guy in the film. It will be the final within the series from director Nolan. He won’t be getting any more unsecured loans to produce more films. Post resource - Anne Hathaway confirmed as Catwoman in the Dark Knight Rises by MoneyBlogNewz.

Guess it may be time to attempt delivery of a "daily" blog post to let you know what we are doing. First of all, working round the clock to get the program together for publication. Plan to have all films listed on the website tomorrow. So check back for the list of 72 films from around the globe including 6 animated films, 23 documentaries, 32 short films, 2 mini-features and 10 feature films to be shown in 35MM, DV Cam, Blu-Ray and DVD. We have 40 film blocks at 3 theaters and a trolley line connecting from our theaters to our beach parties. Well, I'm not exactly going to the Venice Film Festival but I'm more excited about this one because I can't wait to hear how well Machete goes down as it looks like its going to be something special.
Plus I'll be following this one very closely as Quentin Tarantino, my favourtie film maker and topic of my phd study, is on the jury I wonder what he will decide should win the Golden Lion... exciting times ahead. :) Marco Muller and Tarantino! Rob Marshall's Nine (2009) appears to be one of those movies that people walk away from either loving or hating. When I saw it in Palm Springs with Rob Marhsall on panel, I took the opportunity to pose him some of my curious questions regarding his follow up to one of my favorite films ever, Federico Fellini's 8 1/2 (1963). |
