Like any good archeologist, uncovering treasures is paramount to a successful excavation and award winning filmmaker Tom DiCillo has managed to dig up and sift out never-before-seen-footage of one of the most iconic, influential rock bands in history, The Doors. Narrated by Johnny Depp, “When You Are Strange,” uses footage shot between 1965 and 1971, the year Morrison was found dead in his Paris apartment at age twenty-seven. "Tom DiCillo's 'When You're Strange' is a meticulously crafted, exhilarating ode to one of music's greatest ensembles, THE DOORS. Watching the hypnotic, hitherto, unreleased footage of Jim, John, Ray and Robby, I felt like I experienced it all through their eyes. Here, Jim has been resurrected to remind us that he is to this very day, one of the most significant frontmen/poets/shaman to ever grace a stage while the band behind him kept the music alive, adding fuel to an already raging ride into history. As a rock n' roll documentary, or any kind of documentary for that matter, it simply doesn't get any better than this. What an honor to have been involved. I am as proud of this as anything I have ever done." - Johnny Depp The Santa Barbara International Film Festival is proud to announce “When You Are Strange” will be screened on Friday, February 5th at 7:00 pm at The Lobero Theater with The Morrison Family and guitarist Robby Kreiger in attendance and on Sunday, February 7th at 9:30 pm at Victoria Hall with drummer John Densmore and keyboardist Ray Manzarek.
